Edit your profile and photos

Everything people see about you lives on one screen, Edit Profile. Most of it saves with the Save Changes button at the bottom, but photos and interests each save in their own way, so it is worth knowing which is which before you start.

  1. Open the My Profile tab.

  2. Tap Edit profile.

Tapping your name and photo at the top of My Profile opens the same screen. The card at the top of Edit Profile is a preview: it says "This is how other roommates see you".

  3. Tap Manage in the Photos section.

Tapping any photo tile opens the same place. Photos have their own screen, Add Profile Photos, and nothing you do there waits for the Save Changes button on Edit Profile.

  4. Tap Add Photos and pick one or more from your library.

If you have no photos yet, the button says Choose Photos instead. These are the photos on your profile; pictures of a room or an apartment belong on a listing, and you add those when you create or edit it.

  5. Press and hold a photo, then drag it to change the order.

Your first photo is your main photo. It is marked Main here and Cover on Edit Profile, and it is the one people see first in the feed, so put a clear photo of your face there.

  6. Tap Done to save your photos.

New photos are only uploaded, and a new order only saved, when you tap Done. If you close the screen with the X while new photos are waiting, Roomie asks whether to Keep Picking or Discard Changes.

  7. Back on Edit Profile, update your details.

Basics has your name. Housing has your housing status and your monthly budget. About you has your birthday, gender, pronouns and profession. Lifestyle asks Yes, No or N/A for smoking, pets and LGBT+ friendly.

  8. Write your bio in the Bio section.

Tap Expand for a bigger editor. Write with AI drafts one for you if the bio is empty, and turns into Enhance once you have written something, to polish what is there. Whatever it suggests, read it before you save.

  9. Tap Save Changes at the bottom.

Save in the top right does the same thing. Both stay greyed out until you have changed something. If you tap the X with unsaved changes, you get the choice to Keep Editing, Save Changes or Discard Changes.

  10. To change your interests, tap Add interests, or Edit if you already have some.

Tap the plus in the top right to add one: pick from AI Suggestions or Popular, or type your own and tap Add Interest. Tap the X on an interest to remove it. Interests save as soon as you add or remove them, without Save Changes.

Careful

Removing a photo that is already on your profile, with the X in its corner, deletes it straight away. Closing the screen without tapping Done does not bring it back.

Careful

If you see "Photos access needed" on the photo screen, Roomie is not allowed to see your photo library. Tap the banner to open Settings, then allow Roomie access to your photos and come back.

Tip

Answer the Lifestyle questions rather than leaving them on N/A. People can filter the roommate feed on smoking, pets and LGBT+ friendly, and a filtered search only shows people who gave an answer. The same goes for your monthly budget.

Tip

Your birthday is never shown to anyone. Roommates see your age, worked out from it. You have to be at least 16 for Roomie to accept it.
