Block or report someone

Reporting tells the Roomie team about someone so we can look into it. Blocking ends a conversation from your side. They do different things, so if someone is behaving badly, it is worth doing both.

Both options are in the menu on the other person's profile.

  1. Open the person's profile.

From a chat, tap the person icon in the top right. If they have listings you get a small menu, so choose Profile. From a listing, tap View next to their name under Posted by.

  2. Tap the three dots in the top right of their profile.

The menu has Hide, Block and Report.

To report someone

  1. Tap Report.

  2. Describe what happened in the box.

There is no list of reasons to pick from, so say it in your own words. Be specific: asked for a deposit before a viewing, wanted to move to WhatsApp, sent threatening messages. A sentence or two is plenty.

  3. Tap Report in the top right.

The screen closes once it is sent. The person is not told that you reported them, and our team reviews it.

To block someone

  1. Tap Block.

If Block is not in the menu, you have not messaged each other yet. There is no conversation to block, so use Report, or Hide to take them out of your roommate feed.

  2. Tap Block again to confirm.

You get one confirmation before anything happens, and Cancel if you change your mind. Once it is done, the conversation is gone from your Messages list, and from theirs.

Careful

Reporting on its own does not hide anyone or end the conversation. If you do not want to hear from them again while we look into it, block them as well.

Tip

To unblock someone, go to the My Profile tab and tap Blocked users under Account. Tap Unblock next to their name and confirm. Your conversation comes back.

Tip

If someone asked you for money, report them even if you have already stopped replying. The next person they message might not spot it.
