Message someone on Roomie
You can message anyone on Roomie straight from their profile or their listing. Replying is always free. What is limited on a free account is how many new conversations you can start.
Open the profile or listing of the person you want to message.
You can get there from the Listings tab, from your bookmarks, or from a profile someone shared with you.
Tap the Message button at the bottom.
It carries their first name, so it reads Message Sam or Message Alex. On a listing it messages the person who posted it.
Type your first message and send it.
The conversation opens straight away. If you have already talked to this person, Roomie opens your existing conversation instead of starting a new one.
Find the conversation later in the Messages tab.
Every conversation you are in lives there, newest first. Tap Unread at the top to see only the ones with something new in them.
Check how many new chats you have left on My Profile.
On a free account the Chats left box near the top shows how many new conversations you can still start. With Roomie Pro that box reads Roomie Pro, Active instead, because there is nothing to count.
Make sure notifications for Roomie are allowed.
Replies arrive as push notifications. If you turned them off when Roomie first asked, turn them back on in your iPhone Settings app under Roomie, then Notifications. Otherwise replies wait silently in the Messages tab until you next open it.
Only starting a new conversation uses up a chat. Sending and receiving messages in a conversation you already have is unlimited on every plan, and anyone can message you no matter which plan they are on.
When your free chats run out, tapping Message shows a screen saying you have used all your messages, with a countdown. You can start one new conversation a day after that, or upgrade to Roomie Pro for unlimited new chats.
Starting a lot of new conversations very quickly, on any plan, pauses new chats for a while and tells you how long to wait. It only stops new conversations; you can keep replying in the ones you already have.
