Sign up or log in

There is no separate sign-up. The first time you sign in with any option, Roomie creates your account. After that, signing in the same way takes you straight back to it.

The one rule that matters: use the same option every time. Roomie does not join accounts together behind the scenes, so a different option usually means a different account.

  1. Open Roomie.

You land on the welcome screen, with your sign-in options under Sign in to continue.

  2. Tap the option you used the first time.

The choices are Continue with Apple, Continue with Google, Phone and Facebook. If you cannot remember, think about what you tapped when you first set Roomie up, and start with that one.

  3. Finish signing in on the Apple, Google or Facebook screen.

These open their own sign-in window. Once you approve it you come straight back to Roomie. If you chose Phone, skip this step.

  4. If you chose Phone, pick your country from the flag menu.

It starts on the country your iPhone is set to. If your number is from somewhere else, change it here before you type anything.

  5. Type your mobile number, then tap Send code.

Leave out the country code, since the flag menu already adds it. We text you a 6-digit code.

  6. Enter the 6-digit code, then tap Verify code.

If the text does not come, see the article on verification codes linked below.

  7. Check you are back in your own account.

If you land on a Complete Profile screen asking setup questions, like what you are looking for and what your name is, this is a new account rather than your old one. Tap Help in the top left, tap Log out, and sign in again with a different option.

Careful

Each option is its own way into its own account. If you signed up with Apple and later tap Facebook, or sign in with a different phone number, Roomie cannot tell it is you and makes a new, empty account. Your original profile, listings and conversations are still there. Log out and sign in the way you did before.

Tip

Continue with Google finds your existing account if the email on your Google account matches the email on your Roomie account. If it does not match, it makes a new account like any other option.

Tip

To be able to use Google as well, sign in the way you normally do, open the My Profile tab, and tap Link Google account under Account. From then on Google takes you to the same account. This is especially worth doing if you signed up with Apple and chose to hide your email, because then the emails will never match.

Careful

If linking says "That Google account is already linked to another Roomie account", you have already made a second account with Google. Get in touch from the Help tab and we can sort it out.

Tip

Signing in by phone finds your account by the number saved on it. If you are changing numbers, update it first under My Profile, then Phone number, while you can still sign in. Otherwise the new number signs you in to a new account.

Tip

Phone sign-in only works with numbers from the countries listed under the flag menu. If yours is not there, use Apple, Google or Facebook instead. Where you are searching for a room is a separate setting and can be anywhere.
